A festive trip to Wallington.

Wallington Hall is at all times of the year, a fantastic, family friendly place to visit. National Trust members can get a lower priced ticket to enjoy the seasonal wonders that are available.

Explore the beautiful hall, amble around the wall gardens or meander through nearby farmland. There really is something for everyone.

I first  visited Wallington on a University field trip and was really taken by the place. On the precipice of Spring, there was a definite sense of freedom, especially with exams over.

Fast forward a few years, and regular visits are always booked in to get away for a bit. However, with the dreary winter days, closing in and the gardens sleeping through the winter frosts, you might think to put visits on hold until Spring. However, this is certainly not the case. Open after Christmas, we visited and were treated to folk music in the hall which was sumptuously decorated, transforming the dark December day into a cosy, magical escape from ‘Betwixtmas’.

Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, adding to the festive spirit. When the cold started to seep through the thick woollen layers, you could retreat to the lovely Clock Tower Café for some hearty, steaming soup or an obligatory scone with jam. Gifts were a plenty in the gift shop (I love a gift shop) and with seasonal discounts, made the experience all the better. The grounds are dog friendly, so there were plenty of four-legged friends to adore.

I will, of course, be returning in Spring to see in the lighter, brighter days and the new life in the grounds and also to visit the Beavers that have also taken up residence here.

  1. I love Wallington Hall… a great National Trust visitor experience with lots of lovely walks and plenty of wildlife to see. A brilliant post and a great reminder to get my wellies on a visit this coming weekend.
